THE COURSE:
The course will be in the Amazing Fontainebleau State Park, Louisiana.
The Q50 Ultras 50K course will experience beautiful Fontainebleau State Park, Northlake Nature Center, St. Tammany Trace, and the Mandeville Lakefront. Racers will begin within Fontainebleau State Park running along hardwood trails that lead to the edge of Cane Bayou. Participants will continue north crossing Hwy 190 and into the north portion of Fontainebleau State Park. Continuing west, runners will enter into Northlake Nature Center travelling along Bayou Castine. The Center offers visitors the opportunity to experience three different ecosystems: hardwood forest, pine-hardwood forest and pond-swamp. The ponds in the cypress swamp area are the result of beaver dams and a beaver lodge is visible from one of the centers raised boardwalks. Interpretive signs and an outdoor classroom north of the pond enhance the visitors experience of the facilities.
Runners will exit Northlake Nature Center crossing Hwy 190 onto the Tammany Trace which was a railroad that was converted to a multi-purpose trail. In the early days, the railroad was the lifeblood of St. Tammany Parish. Today, this spur is an extremely popular recreation, transportation and educational corridor. Now called The Tammany Trace, it is Louisiana's first and only rails-to-trails conversion. This multi-purpose public path, created from the Illinois Central Railroad corridor, meanders through loblolly pines, live oaks, and magnolias from Slidell to Covington, Louisiana.
Participants will travel west along the Tammany Trace and into the city of Mandeville, Louisiana. The course will wind through this city's streets and along Mandeville's historic Lakefront. In the mid-19th century, regular daily steamboat traffic between New Orleans and Mandeville began, and by the end of the 19th century, it became a popular weekend destination of New Orleans residents. The route will return along the Lakefront and onto the Tammany Trace, continuing to Fontainebleau State Park. The Q50 Ultras 50K and 50K relay will complete two of the above loops.
The 10K Fun Run course will travel along the same route within the south side of Fontainebleau State Park, along the Tammany Trace, and through the west portion of the park before returning to the finish line.
Surface: Both Road and off-road. Flat Course.
RELAY POINT: It will be set at km25. of the course.
DROP BAGS: At the km 25 of the course and start/finish point.
